19 days after SIM ban, NIN registration hits 80.7 million – Punch
The Nigeria Identity Management Commission has issued 80.7 million National Identification Numbers, exactly 19 days after the agency deactivated about 72 million telecommunication subscribers for failing to comply with the Federal Government’s NIN-Subscriber Identity Module policy. The data on NIMC’s portal showed that the number of issued NINs hit 80.7 million on April 23, 2022, about 19 days after the Federal Government ordered telecom companies to bar outgoing calls from subscribers that had not linked their NINs to their SIMs. The commission’s portal registrations showed a 4.67 per cent increase in issued NINs from 77.1 million as of March 21, 2022, to 80.7 million as of April 23, 2022………………..read more
Airtel Africa Announces $755m Profit in 2022 FY- Thisday
Airtel Africa Plc has announced $755 million profit for the year ended March 31, 2022 representing an increase of 82 per cent over $415million reported in prior year. CBN to deepen payment system via eNaira – Daily Independent
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has said central banks across Africa and other parts of the world are trying to study Nigeria’s eNaira project. Emefiele said this on Monday during an experience sharing tour of the CBN’s CBDC (eNaira) by officials of the Bank of Uganda in Abuja. Emefiele said, “We feel delighted on what we are doing in the area of the Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC. Pensioners protest non-payment of gratuities, criticise PTAD – Thisday
A group, Concerned PHCN Pensioners, has staged a protest at the liaison office of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, over the non-payment of their gratuities and arrears while urging the FG to intervene in the matter. The leader of the group, Comrade Engineer Dunmoye Oladimeji, lamented that since most of the retirees left service many years ago, there had been one form of deception or the other by the PTAD management in connection with the payment of their arrears and gratuities over the years……………read more
Transcorp’s quarterly profit rises by 624.4%- Punch
THE profit before tax of Transcorp Hotels Plc, a hospitality company and subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc, rose by 624.4 per cent to N1.067bn as of the end of first quarter ended March 31, 2022, from a loss of N203.7m in the same period of last year.
